Engines which add substance for your automobiles and automotive functions

One of the key players in the engine manufacturing segment is Cooper Corporation. The Satara-based manufacturing company is into the designing, development, manufacturing and distribution of engines and engine components in India and across the globe. While diesel engines have always been a core of business for Cooper, there has been a slight shift in customer preferences during the recent years towards a gas engine. This shift has largely been due to the necessity felt among the people to adhere to the green energy regulation. Owing to these factors, Cooper Corporation has now made a foray into the Gas engine segment.
Recently, Cooper Corporation has been granted approval from the Automotive Research Association of India, the ARAI to manufacture gas engine generators certified to be compliant with the Pollution control regulations. Following this, the company has introduced engines ranging from 2-cylinder, 4-cylinder engine, 6-cylinder engine category of varied capacity from 3.5 kva to 1,000kva. These are fitted with an inline 4 stroke engines for high compression and can be used in a wide range of applications including generators, agricultural pumps, tractors, construction equipment and marine application

Development and manufacture of engines At Cooper, designing of engines is a 3-year process that involves many facets such as designing, tooling, proving as well as making engines compatible with the emission norms. Besides, some of the engines are tailor-made for specific purposes; for eg., the 17L and 35L CNG/diesel engines have been developed for genset and marine use while the sub 1L multipurpose engines in their 428cc-860 cc range have been developed for exports to the US for marine, agricultural, genset and automotive applications. The company has tied up with Ricardo, UK for the designing of world class engine family in the 2, 4-cylinder engine and 6-cylinder engine category to be used by the transportation companies and clean energy industries. Following this collaboration, the company will be covering almost 75% of the range of engine and engine components available in the market that puts them in the league of some of the biggest players in the industry.

Impressive engine life and quality above all aspects A 4-cylinder engine and 6-cylinder engine is an inline 4 stroke engine with great balance and refinement. The crankshaft is more streamlined as one cylinder is a power stroke, while the others operate on a different position than each other. Their manufacturing involves turbocharging technology and use of lighter material so as to increase the efficiency and performance. Both the engine variants comply with the latest Indian environmental norms as well as those of the USA and Europe such as Bharat IV, Euro IV etc. To add to the advantages, the engines are powered with 7,000 hours of life or almost 250,000 kms vehicle application. This proves the fact that the Cooper engines work on a robust and a high fuel economy which have significantly lower levels of maintenance. The Ricardo-Cooper Corporation collaboration has gone on to introduce around 52 variants of engines in the diesel and gas category from 3.5 kva to 1,000 kva within a very short span of time. Having said this, post the collaboration, Cooper Corporation has introduced the new range of engines including 500, 750 and 1000 kva engines. It also includes single cylinder lightweight aluminium engines with power ranging from 5 hp to 8 hp and V twin cylinder engines ranging from 10 hp-16 hp primarily used for agricultural and farming and generators. The company has added an additional capacity of 4,000 engines a month in the new range in addition to the existing capacity of 2,500 engines.

Computer Aided Technology (CAE) aims to develop innovative engines and engine components that are inline with the international standards. While Cooper engines largely cater to the genset market, they are also used to power a wide range of applications for sectors such as automotive, marine, defence, agriculture and generators. The company exports and caters to the overseas market such as Central America, Africa, West Asia, Sri Lanka, Ukraine and Afghanistan.
